Matsuri: Festivals of Akita through a Photographer's Lens Presented ...

THE EXHIBIT:
This is a photography exhibit that focuses on three festivals in Akita, one of Taiko Fujimura?s favorite places in her home, Japan. Photographs range from long range shots of festival participants to close-ups of festival candies or toys. Fujimura gives traditional festival scenes a contemporary?feel with her imaginative use of light and color. Fujimura?s work highlights the contrast between new and old.

The exhibit will open Sept. 27th at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco located at 50 Fremont St. Suite 2200 and run until Nov. 1.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Taiko Fujimura is an artist who works in various media. She works with wood, paint, and Plexiglas, but photography is a personal favorite. Fujimura studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the California College of the Arts. In this exhibit, Fujimura uses color and light (and the lack of light) to enhance already festive and/or colorful scenes. While she relies somewhat on all that she learned as an art student, at this stage of her career as an artist, she endeavors to learn more from experimentation and trial and error than by conventional means.

THE OPENING RECEPTION AND LECTURE:
During the lecture portion of the opening reception, Taiko Fujimura will give a short Power Point presentation. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain more insight into the artist?s process, the influences that have most impacted her artwork, and her connection and interest in Japan and Photography. After the artist?s presentation and short Q & A session, we will move into the exhibition room to view the artwork and enjoy light snacks and refreshments. Please don?t miss
