Jane Lynch and Sarah Palin are two very different women with one major thing in common: their boss. Both the Glee star and the Fox News commentator work indirectly under media mogul Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corporation owns Fox. So when Lynch made an appearance at the News Corp-sponsored D9 technology conference on Tuesday, audience members were shocked (and entertained) by her jabs at Palin -- not to mention Glenn Beck and even the cast of Glee.
"Filling in" for (a.k.a. "pretending to be") CEO Rupert Murdoch -- who usually does the opening remarks at D9 -- Lynch launched her own tongue-in-cheek agenda for Fox. One of her suggestions: Move Sarah Palin from Fox News onto Glee.
"Though not firm as of yet, we're pretty sure we got Sarah Palin to do a guest spot on Glee," said Lynch. "She'll be singing an original tune that I penned; it's called 'Look at Me, I'm Bats**t Crazy.'"
The joke appeared to get a big laugh from the audience, even though Palin -- who is contemplating a run for president -- is one of their own. Lynch also took aim at Glenn Beck, proposing that he "stay on at Fox for one final gig -- as a dying patient on House (whose) sickness is consuming him from the inside out." And she mocked Fox News' coverage of the "birther" movement by suggesting that the young cast of Glee contained "no real Americans."
The comedienne has made it clear in the past that she's no fan of Palin. In a 2010 interview, Lynch compared Palin to her egomaniacal Glee character, Sue Sylvester, who has "these ridiculous views with very little knowledge underneath them." But even her character isn't impressed with Palin; on the show, Sue once called her cheerleading team "the stupidest teens I've ever encountered, and that's saying something: I coached a young Sarah Palin." Ouch.
