Oneida venue gives couple battling brain tumor free wedding

Since March of 2011, Scott Bailey has been battling a rare brain tumor called a pituitary gland tumor. The illness forced him out of work and has made a wedding with his fianc? seem impossible. But an Oneida wedding venue is making their dream a reality. Our Candace Hopkins was there Friday as the couple learned their entire wedding will be completely free.

ONEIDA, N.Y. --"As of right now, everything that is listed on here, has been completely donated for your wedding, one hundred percent, your wedding is right here, if that's okay."

It all started with a letter to the owner of Wolf Oak Acres, asking for help for Scott Bailey and Ashley Hacker. The couple is engaged, but couldn't afford a wedding. After Bailey was diagnosed with a brain tumor, he had to stop working and with two young children to care for, the couple couldn't come up with the money. That's when Katrina Blanchard stepped in. She decided to provide her venue for free and went to Facebook to ask for everything else needed for the event. The response was overwhelming.

"I was bawling last week, I was absolutely bawling, I kept getting all these emails, these phone calls, all these Facebook posts, people just coming out of nowhere. I've never even heard of these people, offering to donate their services, their goods, their time," said Wolf Oak Acres owner Katrina Blanchard.

After the couple heard the news, there were a few tears and a stunned silence. Various vendors and individuals had pledged to give everything they need for the big day, a cake, photographer, invitations and more. Even a wedding dress. Neither could believe it.

"It was very shocking, to have someone tell you everything is free for your wedding, that you don't have pay for anything, a wedding dress and everything, it's unbelievable," said Ashley Hacker.

"I couldn't believe it, just in shock, we were trying to figure out how we were going to get the money to have the wedding she wants, we were happy with something small, but, still speechless,", said Bailey.

The couple had only been together a short time when they learned about Bailey's tumor, but they were determined to stay together.

"It's been a very long journey, being there for each other, it's been hard. We're there for each other," said Hacker.

Now the couple is planning forever together, thanks to the help of some very generous people. Friday was Hacker's birthday. She, of course, says getting a wedding is one of the best presents ever. The only thing left the couple stills needs are wedding bands. The event is scheduled for June 29th.

If you would like to help out with the wedding or donate the wedding bands for the couple, you can contact Wolf Oak Acres at (315) 762-3090 or visit www.wolfoakacres.com.
