CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) ? Major League Baseball announced the tie breaker scenario?s for the AL Wild Card Friday and the Cleveland Indians will get 2 chances to make the post season should they end up in a 3-way tie.
Because the Indians finished with the best combined record between the 2 teams, they received the option to be ?club A.?
In the event of a 3-way tie between the Indians, Texas and Tampa Bay, Cleveland would host the Rays on Monday at Progressive Field. The winner advances to the Wild Card playoff game while the loser plays at Texas Tuesday for for the second Wild Card slot.
Home-field advantage for Wednesday?s A.L. Wild Card Game would be determined by the head-to-head record between the two clubs that earned the Wild Card berths.
In the event of a 2-team tie for 1 Wild Card berth, the tiebreaker game would be played on Monday and hosted by the club that won the season series between the 2 teams.
That means, if the Indians tie with Texas they?d host the Rangers Monday after winning the season series 5-1. If Cleveland ties with the Rays, they would play at Tampa Bay after losing the season series to the Rays 4-2.
Entering play Friday night, Cleveland remained 1 game ahead of Texas for the second Wild Card while trailing Tampa Bay by 1 game for the top slot.
