British Film Institute chairman Greg Dyke appointed Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) to the board of governors for the institution.

Hooper joins the BFI as the org develops a strategy after taking up much of funding duties from the now defunct U.K. Film Council.

Hooper said he was delighted to be joining the BFI at "a moment when the BFI is reinventing itself to be one of the leaders on film in Britain."

His board appointment was made during this year's Festival de Cannes.

He joins fellow boarders including Film4 chief Tessa Ross and Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K. president and managing director Josh Berger.
