Wrestling looks to pin the competition ? Bronc Express

It?s time to roll out those mats again, as Senior High is starting the 2010 wrestling season.?? With so many returning varsity wrestlers, there are no low expectations for this year?s team.

The Broncs will have more experience than the past few seasons, and plan to use this to their advantage.? ?We have a bunch of kids coming back this year, and we?ve all improved a ton over the summer,? said junior Tayte Wegner.? With this much confidence high expectations would be an understatement for the orange and black wrestling team.??

Experience is a key factor in winning the state tournament and state duel tournament, but skill is another important ingredient for the Broncs. Led by a three-time defending state champion senior Tanner Sprenkle, the Broncs know how to put up some points.? Sprenkle will not be the only threat on Senior?s team because he will have a lot of help from juniors Ben Sulser, Jon Hagstrom, and Tayte Wegner, who all placed at last year?s state tournament.? ?With our potential, a state championship is definitely not out of the question baby,? Wegner commented.?

Such a strong team does not just arrive though; Senior?s wrestling squad has put forth plenty of blood and sweat to earn the confidence they have now.? ?Wrestling is easily one of the toughest sports to put your body through,? said junior Jon Hagstrom.?? It takes a ton of determination and mental toughness, but it?s mostly how much heart you are willing to put into the sport.?

Many wrestlers have been going to off-season camps and tournaments that are as far away as Boise, Idaho, and Reno, Nevada.? Then more close to home, kids have been showing up to open mats, which is a time where wrestlers are allowed to come to Senior early before school or late at night after school just to practice technique and moves.? ?We have high hopes this year because we believe our team can compete with the best of them at a state level,? Hagstrom added.
